This is just a small sample of the running we have been doing over the summer and the winter.
We have enjoyed lots of running around Rivington and occasionally Dovestones near the peak district.
Some of us also took on an ultra marathon in Race to the Stones. We completed the Howgills marathon, the Bolton Hill marathon, the Four Passes run in the lakes and a bit of night running around Delamere.
Atherton running club took to the trails around Rivington.
We started off from the Rivington Foundation Primary School at Rivington. Taking the route along Upper Rivington Reservoir and Anglezarke Reservoir we scaled the tough road leading the Anglezarke and through the jungle to top of the reservoirs.
Taking the route to White Coppice we tried an alternative route up to Great Hill, this proved some typical soft going under foot!!
Scaling Great Hill we found the wind and some great views across to Heysham Power Station. We then set off along the slabs that connect Great Hill with Belmont Road, fast and flat meant we could up the pace.
We decided to take the route passed the Pigeon Tower and back through the Japanese Terraced Gardens and back to the car park.
All in all the root that around 10.5 miles with some tough climbing to reach 1,300 feet about a mile past Great Hill.
We also saw the Chorley Grand Prix cycle race taking place on Belmont Road. Apologies for the picture, we were far above it!!
